Q. What is the Menttium 100® program?
A. Menttium 100 is a leadership development program for mid-level, high performing business women providing one to one mentoring, business education and networking opportunities.
Q. What are the criteria for being a mentee in the Menttium 100 program?
A. Menttium mentees are typically mid-level, high performing business women with at least 6 years of business experience. Mentees must be willing to commit the time to prepare and participate in a monthly mentoring meeting and take advantage of the business education and networking offerings. Mentees are self-directed and committed to their personal and professional development.
NOTE: Most mentees are nominated by their companies and additional nomination criteria may be used in addition to Menttium's criteria to make mentee selections.
Q. Who pays for the program?
A. Program fees for mentees are typically paid by the nominating company, however some individuals have come to the program self-nominated and self-paid. Menttium is proud to also offer program scholarships for women in the non-profit sector who match the criteria of Menttium 100 mentees.
Q. Where do the mentors come from?
A. Mentors come to us in a variety of ways. Some are referred by participants in our programs who want to extend the invitation to mentor to their colleagues. Our participating companies encourage their senior leaders to mentor because they recognize that outside perspective and the two way learning that comes from mentoring is as valuable to their senior leaders as it is to their emerging talent. Some business leaders seek us out because they had mentors in their own careers and feel it’s now their turn to give back.
Q. How are mentees matched?
A. Our in depth, hands-on match process begins by knowing and understanding our participants. While we utilize online tools and surveys to gain information about mentees and mentors, our interview process is much more personal and customized than a set of standardized radio dials and multiple choice answers. Each mentee and mentor receives a thorough interview to clarify goals, experiences, skill sets and program expectations. We take that information into our Menttium matching process and select the mentor best suited for your specific goals and personal development needs.
Q. How much time is required to participate in the Menttium 100® Program?
A. Our Menttium 100 Programs are 12-month formal mentoring partnerships. Mentees must be willing to commit approximately 1.5-3 hours every month to meet with their mentor. To fully optimize the program most mentees allow additional time to attend business education sessions, network and prepare for mentor meetings.
Q. Does Menttium provide any training for mentees?
A. Our Menttium 100 Programs offer a Program Orientation session for mentees providing an introduction to the program and guidance on preparing goals for the mentoring experience. Menttium also hosts a Program Launch event providing both mentees and mentors an array of mentoring tools, interactive exercises and strategies to ensure that every partnership has what it needs to get off to a successful start. Additional resources throughout the program year provide continued support to both mentee and mentor.
Q. What happens if a mentee and mentor don’t “click?”
A. Menttium works with each partnership to ensure satisfaction for both the mentee and mentor. Our experience matching over 20,000 partnerships has demonstrated that the “chemistry” that comes with similar personality and style doesn’t always equate to a successful mentoring partnership. Open communication, honesty, shared values and aligned expectations are more important success factors. Mentees tell us that working with someone who views the world differently or has a different style provides the new perspective and learning opportunities they are looking for.
Q. Can the geographically separate mentoring partnerships in your Menttium 100® Virtual program work as well as a face to face partnership?
A. Formal feedback from mentees and mentors in the Menttium 100 – Virtual Program show no variance in program value due to their separate locations and virtual meeting formats. What is more critical than face time is commitment, regular meetings and trust between the mentee and mentor.
Q. Do Business Education speakers have “real-world” business experience?
A. All of our speakers bring a rich background of business experience and expertise to their forum topic. Some have been senior executives or run large business practices in the corporate arena while others consult with a variety of corporations and professional firms. Some sessions are hosted by Menttium mentors offering their vast experience and business acumen to our Menttium participants.
Q. What happens after the Menttium 100 program ends?
A. Menttium provides tools and strategies to help bring formal partnerships to a close. Some mentees and mentors continue to meet informally beyond the 12-month program and some do not. Following the close of the formal 12 month program, Menttium offers mentees and mentors the opportunity to continue participation through the Menttium Alumni Network. The Menttium Alumni Network allows participants in the Menttium 100 Programs to stay connected and grow their network with the rich community of business leaders that participate in Menttium's programs around the world.
