Q. Who participates in Menttium programs?
A. Our participating companies represent a diverse group of Fortune ranked and progressive organizations.
Q. How does mentoring differ from coaching?
A. Mentoring and coaching can overlap; however, there are some distinct differences. Mentoring is a dynamically reciprocal, long-term relationship that focuses on development. A mentor is a confidential sounding board and guide, someone outside the mentee’s hierarchy. Their role is to provide perspective and ask thought-provoking questions. Coaching is (typically) a one-way, short-term relationship that focuses on performance improvement where the coach provides direction on specific skill development.
Q. How do you match mentees to mentors?
A. Our in depth, hands-on match process begins by knowing and understanding our participants. While we utilize online tools and surveys to gain information about mentees and mentors, our interview process is much more personal and customized than a set of multiple choice answers. Each mentee and mentor receives a thorough interview to clarify goals, experiences, skill sets and program expectations. This information informs the matching process and allows us to select the mentor best suited to meet the needs and objectives each mentee.
Q. Who should be a mentee or mentor?
A. Criteria for mentees and mentors is determined by the mentoring program’s strategic objectives. In general, mentees need to be committed to their professional and personal development, and willing to invest time for their mentoring meetings. Mentees must be prepared to manage their partnership: prepare goals and meeting agendas, share honestly, receive and provide feedback and be open to new perspectives and learning.
Mentors are generally experienced, senior business leaders willing to invest their time to meet with a mentee. Mentors must be willing to listen, ask questions, share experiences, provide and receive direct and objective feedback, maintain the confidentiality of the relationship and be open to two-way learning.
Q. Does Menttium provide any training for mentees and mentors?
A. Yes. We offer training for our internal and our cross-company mentoring programs to ensure the success of the mentoring relationships. Structure is a critical component of our philosophy. We offer support and structure to our mentees and mentors through orientation and training sessions, the program launch event, and other materials.
Q. How does Menttium measure the effectiveness of their programs?
A. Menttium follows every partnership from the program launch through the formal program close. We evaluate program satisfaction, progress towards goals, and overall value delivered to the organization.
